Manhattan Mortgage Celebrates 12 Years of Sponsoring Opening Day at the Hampton Classic

Melissa Cohn speaking at Opening Day at the Hampton Classic after introduction by Shanette Barth, Executive Director of the Classic

Melissa Cohn Remembers Each Hampton Classic Experience!

When Melissa Cohn thinks back over the 12 years that her Manhattan Mortgage Company has sponsored Opening Day at the Hampton Classic she has a lot of good memories to recall. Since she wears many hats as a sponsor, host to her guests, rider and parent, those memories are manifold. This year that kick-off day for the week-long equestrian extravaganza takes place on August 26th at the Bridgehampton, NY showgrounds. For one week those 70 acres of year-round barren land are transformed into a bustling horsey mini city.

Ms. Cohn likes remembering those past events and can recall the times she was presented with one of the coveted Hampton Classic ribbons and the many parties she hosted each year in her chalet. She recalls the sunny days and the rainy ones and she cherishes every one.

"The Hampton Classic and especially opening day is always a magical time for me. It is full of memories of friends and riding and ribbons - there is no other horse show like it. To be able to have it in my own backyard makes it that much more special for me. I am proud to have been a part of the Classic for the past 12 years," commented Ms. Cohn.

Ms. Cohn began her Hampton Classic sponsorship of Opening Day because she wanted to give back to the community that has supported her. She continues to sponsor year after year for that very same reason. When she started with the Hampton Classic her company was just ten years old and still growing. Now 12 years later she continues to be named the Top Mortgage Originator in the nation and last year negotiated over 3 billion in originations. Her Manhattan Mortgage Company now has 12 branches (with its headquarters in New York City), 175 employees and the company continues to grow and prosper.

OPENING DAY IS ABOUT THE LOCAL COMMUNITY

Opening Day is about the local Hamptons and Long Island horse enthusiasts whether on horseback or in the audience. On Opening Day the local riders can compete under the very same prestigious conditions at one of the finest horse shows in the world.

While the local competition begins at 8:00 a.m. in the morning, at 1:00 p.m. Ms. Cohn will join Executive Director Shanette Barth on the derby bank to welcome the many guests (equestrian, equine and spectators) just in time to kick off the featured class of the day, the $20,000 Nicolock Time Challenge. After that Ms. Cohn will go to the Press Luncheon to thank the media for their support. Then it's time to join her own guests for a luncheon hosted in her ringside chalet where they will watch Olympic veterans and some of the nation's finest equestrians. Those same competitors will be back again August 28th through September 2nd in an effort to win one of the many coveted Hampton Classic ribbons.

Ms. Cohn will be among those prestigious competitors. She will be competing during the week in the Adult Amateur Hunter division on her horses Bulgari and Corvet Z.

The girls are warming up their "smiling muscles" as they don't want to pull any muscles on the parade route on this bitterly cold day!

MELISSA COHN EARNS TWO RIBBONS AT WELLINGTON HORSE SHOW

Wellington, FL March 20, 2007 This past week, Allwyn Court competed at the CN Worldwide Wellington Finale CSI 5*, which was the eighth week of competition at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF). Allwyn Court, a show stable in Wellington that is owned and managed by Kathy and Gerry Newman, earned numerous ribbons at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club.

Melissa Cohn, who trained with the Newmans throughout the 2007 WEF season, finished second and third in the Adult Amateur 36-50 Hunters with her horse Bulgari.

Cohn's daughter, Sarah Alvarez, also showed at WEF in the Adult Amateur 18-35 Hunters with her mount Titleist.

Bulgari and Titleist, as well as Cohn's new mount Corvet Z, are owned by Manhattan Mortgage. Cohn is the founder, owner and president of Manhattan Mortgage and has earned the company recognition as the number one residential mortgage brokerage in metropolitan New York.

"I have had, for me, the most successful circuit since I hit the scenes in Wellington seven years ago," commented Cohn. "I moved to Allwyn Court in early November and have had an amazing season with them. I came down with three horses," she explained, "Bulgari, who is my star, Titleist, who is my daughter Sarah's star, and Aviator, a young Warmblood that I bought last year."

"Bulgari has been my mainstay this circuit," she stated. "Two weeks ago, I won my first blue ribbon ever at WEF, and we got second and third on Sunday, the final day of circuit here. It was the first two ribbon day for me!" she exclaimed. "I have learned more from the Newmans in the past five months than I have in years, and my goal for next year is to go beyond a blue ribbon and go for a tricolor!"

The Newman's daughter, Katherine, is also a fierce competitor in the junior divisions, and she recently moved up to the High Junior Jumpers with her horse Costa Sur. In addition to the ribbons they won throughout WEF, the pair took home second and sixth places last week. She also enjoyed success in the saddle aboard numerous junior hunters and equitation horses that she catch-rode for other trainers and owners.

Another top performer at Allwyn Court is the small pony Farnley Byron. Christina Firestone, who is the niece of show jumper Alison Firestone Robitaille, showed Farnley Byron in the Small Pony Hunters and earned her first blue ribbon a few weeks ago. She also received high ribbons at last week's competition.

"Basically, I can't say enough about the Newmans and Allwyn court," added Cohn. "They welcomed me in at the last minute and made me feel totally at home, and I think my riding is proof of the success of this new team."

Jean Lindgren and Tony Hitchcock Honored; More Than $60,000 Raised for Equestrian AIDS Foundation and The Ride for Hope.

Business Wire; 9/1/2005

BRIDGEHAMPTON, N.Y. -- Retiring Executive Directors Tony Hitchcock and Jean Lindgren were honored for their three decades of leadership and dedication to the Hampton Classic Horse Show at a special benefit that raised more than $60,000 for the Equestrian AIDS Foundation and "The Ride for Hope."

Melissa Cohn and Mr. and Mrs. Martin Puris hosted the "cabaret" benefit on the Wednesday evening of the Hampton Classic at the Bridgehampton Raquet & Surf Club. They joined Hampton Classic President Dennis Suskind, Equestrian Aids Foundation Vice President R. Scot Evans and television personality James Lipton in honoring Hitchcock and Lindgren in a brief yet moving ceremony. Following the ceremony, SHOW CIRCUIT MAGAZINE presented a special performance by acclaimed Broadway star Deborah Cox. Ms. Cox, who dazzled the more than 250 guests with her performance on the "cabaret stage," is best known for her outstanding performances in the musical hit "Aida." She presented a program ranging from well-known Broadway show tunes to her inimitable stylized versions of jazz and blues standards. After completing her planned set she returned for an encore performance where she rocked the house and got everyone dancing in front of the stage (and, in some cases, with her up on the stage!).

"Jean and I couldn't have asked for a nicer tribute or a more enjoyable evening," Hitchcock said. "We hadn't really wanted a farewell party, but we agreed to this one because it was benefiting the Equestrian Aids Foundation. "Seeing so many people come together for this important cause, and having the chance to say thank you to many of our friends made the night truly meaningful."

In their roles as Executive Directors, Hitchcock and Lindgren guided the growth of the Hampton Classic from a small horse show at Dune Alpin Farm in East Hampton to one of the America's largest and most prestigious horse shows. Now located in Bridgehampton, the show annually attracts over 1,400 competitors and 50,000 spectators including VIPs and celebrities from the worlds of the arts, entertainment and business. Today, the Classic is widely regarded as a major highlight, "a must" of the summer social and sporting season in the Hamptons. As Hitchcock is fond of saying, "...it's the perfect end to the perfect summer in the Hamptons!"

"This was the 10th consecutive year that we've hosted a fundraiser for the Equestrian AIDS Foundation at the Hampton Classic and it was by far our most successful," said Equestrian AIDS Foundation President Robert Dover, a six-time U.S. Olympic dressage rider. "We'd like to thank Tony and Jean for their support and we wish them the absolute best of everything."

"We were especially pleased to host this celebration as part of the Hampton Classic's 30th anniversary," added Scot Evans, who was producer of the benefit. "Without a doubt these are two of the most important people in our equestrian 'family.' For the past 30 years, they have nurtured and managed the Hampton Classic, and have created what is truly the 'Crown Jewel" of the American show jumping circuit.

"On behalf of 'The Ride for Hope' and The Equestrian AIDS Foundation, I want to especially thank Melissa Cohn and Mary and Martin Puris for chairing this celebration. I also want to thank Karin Reid Offield for her generous support and our guest performer Deborah Cox, her stylist Wayne Scot Lukas and SHOW CIRCUIT MAGAZINE for all they did to help make the evening such a success.

"The event would not have been possible without our friends Christopher Robbins and Ken Wolfe of Robbins Wolfe Eventeurs at the Bridgehampton Raquet & Surf Club, M3 Productions, Barbour by Peter Elliot, Bill Bohn of BG Graphics, Michael Cinque and Amagansett Wine & Spirits, Southern Wine and Spirits, as well as Hamptons Magazine & Finlandia Vodka, Southampton Limousine and all of our major donors for helping us create an evening that will truly be a worthy tribute to these two very special people."
